Allied Health is the name given to a group of health professionals that can play a vital role in optimising your day-to-day quality of life, degree of independence, and can reduce the risk of developing further complicating health problems. The Division has established a strong Allied Health Team that works in conjunction with local GP’s to extend healthcare to rural communities that have previously lacked these services.
The Division offers services in the following Allied Health Disciplines
• Speech Pathology
• Diabetes Education
• Dietetics
• Counselling
• Psychology
• Social Work
• Occupational Therapy
• Drug and Alcohol Clinical Work
Originally it was a commonwealth funded project known as the More Allied Health Scheme (MAHS) that had allowed for the employment of a number of Allied Health Professionals. As the demand for these services increased and in an effort to create sustainable services health care options, the Division now utilises numerous funding methods to provide Allied Health Services to Central Queensland communities. Patients’ are able to access Allied Health Services under the MAHS program if they meet the eligibility criteria. These patients’ are asked to contribute a $10 co-payment toward the cost of their treatment.
Each of the Allied Health Professionals employed with the Division operates an outreach service to surrounding communities, working collaboratively with local GP’s. The Division Allied Health professionals also regularly initiate health promotion and education programs within the local communities.
