The aim of this Initiative is to provide Crisis counselling for those people adversely affected by drought. Also to organise education and training in order to help de-stigmatise (normalise) mental health and well being and to encourage help seeking from individuals and families before they reach a crisis and to assist with building community resilience.
The Community Support Worker employed by the Initiative is involved in community outreach with the aim of setting up a sustainable mental health drought plan for each of the communities in the region. This would involve educating the people who to contact for assistance with mental health.
The community support worker is also to develop linkages with other relevant health professional organisations to ensure a coordinated approach to supplying education and raising community awareness.
