Rural Practitioners are at a disadvantage because of their isolation and lack of access to support services taken for granted by their urban contemporaries. This Program area provides Family Support to GPs, Registrars, their families and Medical Students. Access to Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development is difficult for all Rural Practitioners and the Division plays a major role in the delivery of this service to GPs, Registrars and Medical Students.
Practice support is also an important role for the Division. Education is provided regularly for Practice Staff at all levels and the Division assists Practices to achieve the standards set for Accreditation. Practice visits are conducted by Division staff on a regular basis to each Practice and Practice Staff can be sponsored to undertake further studies relevant to their position. Biannually a GP and Practice Staff weekend is held at Rydges Capricorn Resort, which is an educational weekend offering excellent opportunities for networking.
