The ‘Can Do’ Initiative: Managing Mental Health and Substance Use in General Practice is a national Initiative, funded through the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing as part of the National Comorbidity Initiative.
The initiative promotes a ‘Can Do’ approach to general practice to meet the challenge of mental health and substance use and focuses on education, training and networking between two multidisciplinary teams of health professionals: general practice teams, and community health teams (especially those engaged in alcohol and drug service, community pharmacy and mental health service delivery).
'Can Do' now comprises several components including Teams of Two, Clinical Education and eight population specific modules. Use the menu to the left to navigate between these components.

The CQRDGP works together with the local GP’s and Community Health Services to hold regular “Can Do” education sessions. These sessions are provided with no cost to the attendee’s. CQRDGP hopes to promote an open forum where attendees can learn together and discuss issues relevant to the topic, which they have experienced in their professional lives.
Mental Illness and the Use of Substances is becoming extremely prevalent in society, however the treatment is still experiencing deficits in its effectiveness. CQRDGP hopes that by holding these sessions regularly we will assist the local GP’s, along with the Community Health Services in gaining knowledge and increased awareness of the need for effective treatment when co-morbidity exists.
