General Practice Queensland (GPQ), with funding from the Australian Government Dept of Health and Ageing and Queensland Health, coordinated the Partners in Mind Initiative (PIM) during 2005-2006.
The focus of PIM has been to develop the Queensland Framework for Primary Mental Health Care ('the Framework') through extensive consultation across the sector.
The 'Local Implementation Tool' and 'Statewide Reform Guide' components of the Framework contain numerous elements. These elements can be used by a service provider/agency to either implement elements of the Framework within their own agency, or to facilitate broader regional implementation with other local service providers/agencies. The Framework also includes suggested outcomes to work towards and potential strategies to support implementation. This website, and in particular, the Framework Implementation and Resources sections, contains a range of valuable information and tools to assist with implementation.

The Central Queensland Rural Division of General Practice has been privileged to be one of the pilot sites for the test period of this initiative. There are several Project Officers who have been working towards establishing, maintaining and continuing the promotion of this initiative. Through this hard work, they are creating a safety net that sits below the different primary mental health service networks which client’s access, to ensure that the client does not “fall through the cracks and get lost”. This “safety net” is built through the creation and completion of tasks set out in the Local Implementation Tools.
